About Flint

Flint is an unincorporated community in southeastern Smith County along FM 2493, south of Tyler, at an elevation of 522 feet (Wikipedia: Flint, Texas). It began as a railroad stop named for local landowner Robert P. Flynt, but when the post office opened in 1887 the postmaster spelled it "Flint" on the application, and that spelling stuck. It has its own post office with ZIP code 75762 and a humid subtropical climate.

Trees and outdoor units

Shade from tall pines can help an outdoor unit run cooler, but needles, leaves and spring pollen clog coils and fins. Keep two feet clear around the unit, rinse the coil gently each spring with the power off, and ask for coil cleaning during maintenance. ENERGY STAR's maintenance checklist covers both (ENERGY STAR, heating and cooling).

Larger homes and long duct runs

Larger homes on acreage often have long duct runs or more than one system. Rooms at the far end of a long run are the first to feel warm. See ductwork and airflow.

Unincorporated area

Because Flint is unincorporated, it has no city building office. Check with Smith County about any requirements that apply (Smith County).
