About Lindale

Lindale is a city in Smith County with 6,059 residents in the 2020 census (Wikipedia: Lindale, Texas). The town began in 1871 when railroad track was laid between Tyler and Mineola; Elijah Lindsey opened the first general store and became the first mayor a year later. Caddo and later Cherokee people lived in the area before Texas settlement. The stretch of U.S. 69 between Tyler and Lindale carries signs marking the first Adopt-a-Highway segment in the world.

Newer homes, newer questions

Recent subdivisions bring newer equipment, often with SEER2-rated heat pumps or high-efficiency furnaces. Owners of these homes most often ask about maintenance plans, warranty registration and why a new system leaves rooms uneven. ENERGY STAR's maintenance checklist is a good guide to what a visit should include (ENERGY STAR, heating and cooling).

Older and rural homes

Older homes near the original downtown and rural properties outside town may have propane furnaces, window units or aging split systems. Replacement is a good time to consider whether a heat pump, dual-fuel system or ductless setup fits better.

Checking contractors

Texas requires air conditioning contractors to hold a state license from TDLR, with an online lookup (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, air conditioning and refrigeration contractors). Inside city limits, check with the City of Lindale about permits.

Nearby

Tyler is south on U.S. 69, Noonday and Whitehouse lie beyond it, and Kilgore is east along I-20.
