About Whitehouse

Whitehouse is a city in Smith County just southeast of Tyler, with 8,257 residents in the 2020 census (Wikipedia: Whitehouse, Texas). The community was named in 1845 but did not incorporate until 1953; the school district came first and helped lead to city government. Oral tradition says railroad engineers named it for a white-washed building where they stopped. Works Progress Administration projects built with sandstone rockwork still stand in the historic town center.

Systems at the decision point

Homes built during Whitehouse's growth in recent decades often have their first or second system. Older ones may still use R-22 refrigerant, which the EPA no longer allows to be produced for new use (U.S. EPA, refrigerant management (Section 608)). If a refrigerant leak shows up on one of these, the repair-or-replace guide is worth reading before deciding.

Family homes and comfort

Bigger households mean more doors opening, more cooking and showers, and more moisture. Bath fans, kitchen hoods and AUTO fan settings help the AC keep humidity down. The DOE's Energy Saver pages have tips on thermostat use and efficiency (U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Saver heating and cooling).

Permits

Inside city limits, check with the City of Whitehouse about permits for equipment replacement.
